Hope for Homeless Children
Did you know that there are over 100,000 kids who are become homeless each year in America? These children are 87% more likely to drop out of school. Due to the difficulties of surviving without a home, many of them are forced to give up on their education, their dreams, their goals, and their hope for a better life. They have to learn to survive on the streets and so 100,000 or more American kids are forced into prostitution. 5,000 of homeless young people lose their lives to the streets. 40% of the homeless population are under the age of 18. (All information received from https://www.covenanthouse.org/)
Why are all of these kid in America without homes? Many of them are children who have "aged out" of foster care. When a child "ages out" of foster care, that means that they are too old for the government to pay for a foster parent to take care of them. A lot of the time they don't have anywhere to go so they end up on the streets where they are faced with dangerous weather conditions, sex traffickers, starvation, bad hygiene and health conditions, and lack of education. It's this information shocking? I had no idea until recently that there were so many homeless children in America. It's truly heartbreaking.
